EQ Settings for our Yaesu FTDX-5000MP
The video below shows the noise floor as well as the audio from the radio.
Put your headphones on and get ready with the volume control.
I am using a Yaesu FTDX5000MP, what you will hear will be the noise coming from the emergency lighting system at the building I live at, these are the outside lighting attached to the building, 6 lights in total, they are now on 24/7.
The noise comes on every 1 minute and 30 seconds and last for 3 minutes and 40 seconds roughly, this is in daytime, at night it changes and lasts longer upto 5 minutes at night, then continues the cycle all over again, it is not the lights causing this problem, it is the emergency battery backup system that has failed, the batteries are dead, and need replacing, so the switch mode supplies are trying to charge something that’s dead, so it keeps on trying.
You will hear me removing the filtering in this radio at some point along the 5 minutes of this vid, and then reactivate it bit by bit until we can hear people, it is extremely tiring on the ears for sure, you can hear how bad it really is, If I was to use any of my other radios, I would not have been able to hear some of the people that was talking, this radio has an amasing set of filtering attached, anything else and we would be just hearing mainly noise, my Yaesu 857d would not cut it, nor would the Yaesu FT1000MP, they are just not good enough, although, they was not to meant to work in conditions like I have, even with the amount of filtering at my disposal, due to the proximity of the lighting, even having a mag loop would not clear this noise.
At one stage listening through this, the noise goes into its 1 minute 30 second off cycle, and it is wonderful with no noise.. enjoy.
We have now resolved the problem, all the lighting systems that was causing this has now been replaced
It’s so much better now, but shows how everything can change and make your hobby a misery.
